Roulette is one of the most popular gambling games. You can meet the iconic spinning wheel with its elusive ball in land-based gambling establishments and online casinos. Roulette is a wheel with 36 sectors.

They are painted black and red. There is also a green zero segment. In American roulette, there are two green zero segments, which we will explain later on. The player’s goal is to guess which sector the ball will freeze after the rotation stops.

The bet in roulette is placed on a specific color, on an even or odd number. Also, the players at the table can voice the range in which the ball can stop. The type of bet depends on the coefficient and the final amount of the winnings.

The game process can be described in simple words:

  1. The croupier announces the start of the game and invites customers to make bets.
  2. The croupier tosses the ball onto the spinning wheel as soon as the players have placed their bets. It is possible to change your initial guess during the game.
  3. After the end of the rotation, the croupier calls the number and color of the sector where the ball stopped.
  4. Calculation and payment of winnings.

Roulette Device

Even though there are several varieties of the game with different rules, all used roulettes for the game have a similar structure. When choosing a strategy, you need to consider what rules a particular gambling game works by.

Roulette has 36 sectors. Sector 37 is allocated to the zero segment. The numbers are arranged in a chaotic order, while their sequence is strictly observed.

There are the following sectors:

  • VOISINS DE ZERO. 17 numbers arranged from left to right.
  • 8 numbers, 5 are to the left of zero.
  • 12 numbers arranged from left to right. It includes a range of numbers from 33 to 27.

Besides the spinning wheel, the game also includes a betting field. In a casino, customers can bet on a color or number in this area. All numbers are arranged in three rows of 12 digits each.

The betting field can be divided into two sectors:

  1. Here, bets are made on specific numbers or a combination of them.
  2. Bets on auxiliary elements around the numbers.

What Types of Bets Are There?

Roulette players have the opportunity to place bets of various types. The higher the probability that the bet will play, the smaller the payout.

Here is a list of the most popular bets:

  • Straight-Up bet. The player places chips on a specific number on the field.
  • A bet on two numbers that are adjacent to each other vertically or horizontally.
  • A bet on three numbers at once, adjacent to each other in a horizontal position.
  • For funny 4 numbers. Chips are located at the intersection point of all numbers.
  • Even or odd. Depending on the player’s choice, the bet will play if any even or odd number falls out.
  • Red/black. Winning when the ball stops on a specific color.

Roulette is one of the games where a well-thought-out strategy is essential. Some online casinos offer roulette games in demo mode. This way, you can get a better understanding of how it works, try out different strategies, and choose the one that suits you best.

What Are the Roulette Variants?

Roulette Variants.png

Earlier we mentioned that the roulette wheel has different styles, with different types of games. What are they?

Well, due to the multiple variants of roulette at online casinos, you can say there are dozens of variants of roulette, including modern games like Pinball Roulette and Quantum Roulette. However, if we are broadly speaking of the classic variants, we can split them into three categories:

European Roulette

Arguably the most well-known variant of the game, European roulette was the prototype for our roulette strategy and rules discussion above. Due to the layout of the wheel (36 numbers, 1 zero pocket), European roulette is sometimes called Single-Zero roulette.

American Roulette

American roulette plays under the same rules as European roulette, but the key difference comes in that extra pocket – the double zero or 00 pocket. That means there are 38 segments on the roulette wheel.

Importantly, the payouts for American roulette and European roulette are the same. For example, you will still get even money on a red/black bet and 35 to 1 on a straight-up bet.

So, when you think about it, European roulette is more advantageous to the player. That bears out in the house edge, which is 5.26% for American roulette and 2.7% for European. That extra 00 pocket makes all the difference.

French Roulette

Technically speaking, French roulette is a variant of European roulette, but there are some key rule changes that cause players to make the differentiation between the two.

Most notably, there is La Partage rule. If the ball lands in the zero pocket, all even-money bets (Red/Black, Odd/Even, etc.) are split between the player and the house. So, for example, if you bet on Red, and the ball landed in the zero pocket, which is normally a losing bet in other variants, you would earn half your stake back.

“Partage” means “share” in French. This rule can bring the house edge down to as low as 1.3%. So, it goes without saying – if you have the choice, play French roulette ahead of other variants.
